The story
Athens in the evening. The sun drops behind the Acropolis, every taverna around you is full and smells incredible, and there you are, phone in hand, scrolling menu after menu for the one word that never appears. You end up with a plate of salad and some bread, genuinely hungry, telling yourself you'll find something tomorrow. Anyone who keeps kosher while travelling knows that evening by heart.
So we decided to open the place we'd been looking for ourselves. We began with a burger, the most everyday food there is, the most comforting, the one you miss most far from home. That's how King David Burger opened at Ermou 78, under a minute from Monastiraki Metro and on the walk to the Acropolis: Athens' first kosher burger, flame-grilled, on a sesame bun, from Mehadrin beef. Once the tables filled up, we opened King David Kosher Food at Fokionos 12, with a dairy & fish kitchen and a meat kitchen under one name, all Mehadrin-certified, our second kosher address.
And why King David? Because he was the one who gathered everyone around a single table and made sure no one went without. We gave him a crown on the logo as a small promise: here you're a guest, never a compromise.
Everything is Mehadrin-certified under Tiferet Yisrael (Vaad Rabbanei Europa). The meat, the suppliers and the kitchen are checked every single day, and the certificate hangs on the wall for anyone who wants a look. You won't need to quiz the waiter or phone home to ask. Whatever needed checking, we checked long ago.
