What people ask us about kosher: answered.

Is King David Burger kosher?

Yes. Both King David venues in Athens, King David Burger at Ermou 78 and King David Kosher Food at Fokionos 12, are kept Mehadrin kosher under Tiferet Yisrael (Vaad Rabbanei Europa). The certificate hangs on the wall at each venue, and you're welcome to look it over before you sit down.

Are there kosher restaurants in Athens?

If you keep kosher in Athens, King David is the safe address. Our two venues, the burger on Ermou and the Fokionos address, are Mehadrin-certified under Tiferet Yisrael. There may be other places in the city that call themselves kosher, and each is worth checking on its own terms. With us there's nothing to check: the supervision and the certificate are out in the open.

What kosher supervision does King David have?

The supervision is Mehadrin under Tiferet Yisrael (Vaad Rabbanei Europa). King David Burger on Ermou 78 is supervised by Rabbi Harel Asher Yazdi; King David Kosher Food on Fokionos 12 by Rabbi Yaron Chanukah. The meat, the suppliers and the kitchen are inspected every working day, not once a month, but daily.

What's the closest kosher food to the Acropolis?

King David Burger, Ermou 78, by Monastiraki. One minute's walk from Monastiraki Metro, and two or three more put you on the route up to the Acropolis. As far as we know it's the closest quality kosher food to the site. Eat before the climb or after, and skip the salad-for-dinner routine.

Is King David meat or dairy?

King David Burger is fully meat: no dairy is served there, so there's no meat-and-milk waiting period to count. King David Kosher Food at Fokionos has two fully separate kitchens, including separate equipment: a dairy & fish kitchen (breakfast, sushi, salads, pasta, pizza and desserts) supervised by Rabbi Yaron Chanukah, and a meat kitchen (€10 mains and sides) that carries its own separate meat certificate. Both kitchens are Mehadrin-certified under Tiferet Yisrael. For the dairy kitchen's chalav yisrael status, message us on WhatsApp before you come.

Are you open on Shabbat?

Not on Shabbat itself. King David Burger at Ermou 78 closes on Friday before Shabbat comes in and opens again after Shabbat ends, around 21:00. King David Kosher Food at Fokionos 12 stays closed all of Saturday (Fri 10:00–19:30 · Sat closed). On weekdays the burger is open Mon–Thu 11:00–23:00.

Is there kosher sushi or kosher pizza in Athens?

Yes, both. King David Kosher Food at Fokionos 12 serves sushi, pizza, pasta and fish from its dairy & fish kitchen, Mehadrin-certified under Tiferet Yisrael and supervised by Rabbi Yaron Chanukah, on equipment kept entirely separate from the meat kitchen. It is a two-minute walk from King David Burger at Ermou 78. Every dish and every price is published on the full menu.

How much does it cost, and where are the prices?

Both menus are published in full on this site, as text, with a price against every dish. At King David Burger, burgers start at €16, or €22 with chips. In the meat kitchen at King David Kosher Food, Fokionos 12, mains are €10 with sides. Prepared Shabbat food is €45 per person. Fokionos 12 also publishes a full drinks list with prices.

Can I get kosher food for Shabbat in Athens?

Yes. We prepare Shabbat food at €45 per person: fish patties, a choice of asado cigar or arayes, five salads, a main course and a side. A Shabbat hotplate (plata) comes with every order. Order on WhatsApp by 14:00 on the Friday you need it, and collect before Shabbat from either Ermou 78 or Fokionos 12.

Is King David a Jewish restaurant? Is there a minyan or somewhere to pray?

“Jewish restaurant” and “kosher restaurant” are usually used to mean the same thing. King David is a kosher restaurant: both venues are Mehadrin under Tiferet Yisrael (Vaad Rabbanei Europa). There is also a beit midrash — a room for prayer and study — inside King David Kosher Food at Fokionos 12, open to everyone, with a minyan and shiurim. No fixed timetable is published, so message us on WhatsApp for the next minyan.

Two venues, the exact same supervision.
